Together Christopher Goett (Blackout Transmission) and Greg Svitil (Teething Veils) have taken on the time honored tradition of moody post-punk and carved out a very unique version where noise, shoegaze, post-rock and punk are all expanded on with amazing results.
While the first half of the album is reminiscent of Unwound as a desert rock band and appears cut from a similar cloth to late period Fugazi or even Hoover, the second half is a slightly more straight forward affair with guitar fuzz and turbulent melodies that songwriters like Lou Barlow have made good use of. Really, though, there’s little use for comparison.
We are still reeling from the tremendous outpouring of support and love from our 10-year Anniversary Showcase at the Capital Fringe Theater in Washington, DC. A heartfelt thank you to all that came out to our showcase and have been supporting our artists . . . its what keeps us going! We commemorated the occasion by issuing our first compilation CD with rare/unreleased tracks from virtually all of our artists from the first 10 years of operation.
Blade of Grass: Etxe Records' latest addition just played a scorching set at the Off Sunset Festival as part of LA Leather Pride.
The band is readying a new single "Looks So Good" for release on Friday April 20th with a release party/show in El Sereno, Los Angeles to commemorate the occasion and celebrate liked-minded community artists.
Additionally, Blade of Grass will be playing The Satellite in Silverlake, Los Angeles as part of the Wild Riot and Beat Lab Academy presentation of Spring Break Mini-Fest on April 30th featuring $10 Tattoos and live art. Other artists on the bill include Spacers, Plasmic, Electric West, and many more.
We've got all kinds of updates to kick off 2018 -- our 10th year of official operations as an artist-driven record label cooperative. On January 20th, 2018, we will release our first mulit-artist collection: "Etxe Records at 10 Years: A Compilation".
Every artist on Etxe has contributed rare and unreleased tracks to celebrate the milestone. Girl Loves Distortion, Fangs Out, Silo Halo, Teething Veils, Ars Phoenix, The Red Fetish, and Near Northeast contributed 14 tracks.
Video single from Silo Halo's forthcoming eponymous 3rd LP available for on clear lavender vinyl. Our Brazilian friends over at The Blog That Celebrates Itself premiered the video last week stating it features "overlapping roads and mountains, serving as a backdrop for the melancholy and dense tone of the song, which leaves aside the post-punk shoegaze of the duo with eloquent airs and sophistication, evoking Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds".
Etxe artists Near Northeast, The Red Fetish, Silo Halo, and Teething Veils will be playing at Capital Fringe on Saturday, January 20. This show celebrates Etxe's 10-year anniversary, including a compilation album featuring new and unreleased recordings from Etxe artists old and new, live performances from four Etxe bands, and an album release from Silo Halo. Details and RSVP.
Today we're celebrating the new album by Near Northeast, 'True Mirror' and the accompanying cassette single 'Indali Variations 1-8.' Both releases are now out and available physically through the Etxe Store
